About this Channel
Theatro Technis is a 'community theatre' in London's Camden Town, which originates from its Cypriot roots, but as a leading fringe theatre venue it now serves the needs of a globalised community. We currently profile the production by writer-director Justin Butcher "Go to Gaza, drink the sea" - 17 Feb to 14 Mar 2009
Profile
Arts based community centre and Theatre which celebrated its 50th anniversary during 2007. Items currently showing on the 'video loop' are past documentaries to remind the world of the 34th Anniversary of the Greek Junta coup and the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 2008. The Greek junta is long-since gone, but Turkey continues to occupy 37% of the island despite innumerable UN Resolutions and despite this occupation the European Union has agreed to commence 'accession' negotiations, rather than insisting on Turkey withrawing its troops from Cyprus first. http://www.theatrotechnis.com The current production at Theatro Technis from 17th February to 14th March 2009 is: "Go to Gaza, Drink the Sea" “A space and a moment - set aside from people’s busy email-driven, mobile phone buzzing, credit-crunch anxious daily lives - which people can enter, hear and see enacted the true stories of those in Gaza.” Justin Butcher, writer-director Palestinian and British artists, writers and filmmakers come together to create an unusual and unique piece of theatre in response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. In spite of the constraints, people inside Gaza have contributed photos, video footage and testimonies for this production. The performance also provides a unique opportunity for the audiences to record and send personal messages of solidarity. More details at: http://gotogaza.wordpress.com The Go to Gaza Production hopes to bring some "live" performances through this facility at some points during its production run at Theatro Technis.
