Default Problems with CPU!

I just downloaded the new version of ProCaster and now I can't stream because the CPU goes to 100% and crashes! I've been streaming for over a year now, and I've never experienced this... I stream with a new Macbook Pro with 4GB RAM.

I need to stream!!!

Here's a picture:

carestauracion,

Please post the rest of your system specs including your CPU. Also, please let us know at what quality you're streaming. It might be helpful to close out of any other programs while you stream. For reference, here is a link to Procaster's minimum system specs:

Best,
Jason

The Same thing happens to me in 20.2. Macbook pro 2009 2.66Ghz core 2 duo. 4GB RAM OS X 10.6.8. Everytime I start to stream at any quality setting CPU goes all the way to 100% and the stream stops automatically. Not really sure why this is happening.

Randygodfrey,

What are you trying to stream? Does this happen even when you go live in Normal Quality? It should help to disable local recordings, and to close out of other programs that don't need to be open during your stream. You can disable local recordings in the Desktop tab of Procaster's preferences.

Best,
Jason

Angry Same Problem

Brand New Mac Mini, streaming perfectly for 6 months, now with the upgrade, all my CPU is sucked dry. Have 10.6, so it shouldnt be an issue.

Default Crashing on MBP 2.53GHz at Normal Quality

I upgraded to ProCaster 2.20 last weekend and am no longer able to reliably video stream from my MBP 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo w/4 GB Memory.

I'm using Normal Quality (446Kbps) and have NO other applications open. ProCaster gives me the yellow warning message about CPU going over 80% although both ProCaster and Activity Monitor typically show CPU at 68% or 70%. Still, it's giving me the warning and sometimes dropping the steam.

I'm concerned that it won't hold up for an hour long stream scheduled and advertised for tomorrow night.

Along with the high CPU and warnings, the text chat in ProCaster goes off and prints double characters (ie. "test" comes out "tteesstt"). If I restart, it's ok -- for a while.

With the previous version of ProCaster, I was able to live video stream with FireFox running, open to Livestream studio where I handle overlays and the ticker myself.

Last weekend, w/ProCaster 2.20, I was able to do an audio-only stream with only warnings about CPU going over 80%. Audio only!

Thanks.

Latrippi, bradlittle and The_breakerz,

Please reference Jason's post above and try disabling local recordings and close out of any non essential programs. Then let us know if you experience further complications.

I've tried, but it's not better...

My only solution was to use Time Machine to restore an older version of Procaster.
With the older version and the same settings, it use less than 30% of my CPU !

As noted in my original post, I had already closed out of all applications other than ProCaster.

If I disable local recordings, the CPU usage seems to drop about 10-15% but I'm testing it now with just my built-in iSight camera and nothing much happening 'on screen'. I suspect it will shoot up when I connect to an external camera for a real broadcast. But note that the ProCaster Guide -- and instructions from Tech Support -- say that we should record our streams locally in case something happens, we'll always have the back up. So that might be a temporary workaround, but not a solution, right?

thanks,

Laura
