Do I need advance equipment?

I'm going to stream a live sport event through live stream. The input I'm getting is from the satellite transmission source through a HDMI port (720p), so I think my basic setup is capturing the HDMI input, stream to the server? My my question is, to gain the maximum quality do I need extra equipment other than a high end capturing card?
