Citizen journalism organization TheUpTake.org covered the very exclusive press conference today, in which President Barack Obama spoke on behalf of the earthquake-shaken Haiti.
For the past week, Haiti has been dealing with copious amounts of destruction, homelessness, and hunger as a result of the earthquakes – contributing to further financial hardships for the poverty-ridden country.
In the press conference, President Obama affirmed, “Haiti will have the full support of the United States,” which will include emergency medical relief services, and the transportation of water, food, and many other basic amenities. The President also urged Americans and the entire world to contribute to the Haitian victims at Whitehouse.gov.
TheUpTake.org will continue to show the replay of the press conference at http://www.livestream.com/theuptake.

NEW YORK (Dec. 23, 2009) – Bay-Area native Brett Dennen has partnered with Livestream to broadcast an exclusive New Year’s Eve performance at the Fox Theater in Oakland presented by Life is good and Another Planet Entertainment.
Starting December 31th at 8:30PM PST, fans can tune in to Brett’s Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/brettdennen), Website (http://www.brettdennen.net), or Livestream.com (http://www.livestream.com/brettdennenalolive) to view the broadcast. Joining Brett are Brushfire Recording artist and neighbors ALO, plus several local musicians at a party destined to be the Bay-Area kick-off to 2010.
To kickoff this special New Years Eve performance, Brett will also interact with his fans on Livestream, with a special Q+A session from his rehearsals on December 30th at 3PM PST. The performance at the newly renovated theater marks Brett’s first local headline since selling out two nights at the legendary Fillmore. He also recently engaged thousands at the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival in Golden Gate Park and supported Jason Mraz for a sold out show at Berkeley’s Greek Theatre.
This show completes a highly successful year for Brett supporting his most recent release Hope For The Hopeless, which appropriately begins with Bay-Area homage “San Francisco”. Closing the year with a broadcast presented by Life is good makes perfect sense. Brett’s 54-city winter-spring tour was featured Life is good as a partner, and both Brett and ALO played for tens of thousands at Life is good Festivals in Boston, St. Louis and San Francisco in the summer and fall. Their vocal support for the Life is good Kids Foundation throughout the year helped this nonprofit raise over $900,000 in 2009 for children facing life-threatening conditions.
With Livestream as the exclusive streaming provider, the player for the webcast can be embedded anywhere. Integration with Facebook and Twitter allows viewers to engage in an online conversation with other fans and the band. The performance will also be encoded for the iPhone, making the broadcast accessible to over a million iPhone users with a 3G wireless connection at http://iphone.livestream.com/.
NEW YORK (Nov. 4, 2009) – On Nov. 6, TEDxEast is coming to New York. The inaugural TEDxEast event will feature a half-day of speakers, TEDTalks, music and dance.
The “Developing World Ideas” theme explores the people and processes that drive “world ideas” through stories that resonate on a global stage. Guest speakers will include web entrepreneur Rachel Sterne, best-selling author Suzy Welch and Kickstarter CEO Perry Chen among others.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has established TEDx, a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. TED Conferences invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com.
TEDxEast has chosen to broadcast the entirety of their first event via Livestream, the leading broadcast platform and community for streaming media. Livestream allows the webcast to be embedded anywhere, including integration with Facebook and Twitter to allow users of the social media tools to engage in the ongoing conversation of TEDxEast.
The conference is subsequently provided with immediate interaction with those viewers via the social stream, adding a new dimension to their live broadcast while further helping their message reach many thousands of viewers online. TEDxEast will be viewed live by TEDx groups in Argentina, Canada, Chile, Holland, Mexico, Portugal as well as in U.S. cities such as Boston, Kansas City and San Francisco.
“TEDxEast is an opportunity to inspire and educate with a roster of today’s thought leaders and tomorrow’s innovators. Livestream’s robust platform acts as a multiplier, bringing together a global audience to share our local TEDx experience,” says Edward Rashba, TEDxEast co-organizer.

“The Foo Fighters will be streaming a concert live tomorrow night on Facebook, direct from the band’s Studio 606 headquarters in Los Angeles. You can RSVP to the event here, and stream it live here beginning at 7 PM PST tomorrow. As with Facebook’s other recent video streaming events, users will be invited to update their status messages with their thoughts about the concert, which will draw in even more fans as they see the updates in their news feeds. The live video will be powered by Livestream.
Live concert streams seem to be a growing trend for the web’s most popular content and social sites. Last week MySpace streamed their Secret Show Weezer concert in San Francisco. And earlier this week YouTube streamed a U2 concert from the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. The event was a huge success, drawing a reported 10 million streams. YouTube also streamed San Francisco’s Outside Lands music festival in August. Hulu has also gotten in on the action, with a Dave Matthews Band stream in May.”
