While celebrities have been given most of the attention surrounding relief efforts in Haiti, every day people—like Internet fan communities—have been doing their part as well. Started by online Harry Potter, Heroes, Lost, True Blood, The Wire and Firefly fan communities, “Helping Haiti Heal” will be a live fundraiser webcast on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 2 PM EST.
The live webcast fundraiser will feature special appearances, interviews, and performances by The Leaky Cauldron, PotterCast, The HP Alliance, MuggleNet, MuggleCast, Hogwarts Radio, FictionAlley, The Signal and TrueBloodNews, actors from “The Wire,” and “Heroes”; wizard rock from Harry and the Potters, Draco and the Malfoys, The Remus Lupins, Ministry of Magic, Lauren Fairweather, and The Whomping Willows, and author Neil Gaiman. Also, J.K. Rowling—author of the Harry Potter series—is rumored to make an appearance.
In addition, hundreds of great prize donations from authors, musicians, and activists will be made available for purchase to fans—in which the proceeds will go directly to Partners in Health, an organization helping those hardest hit by the tragedy.
