Last night the Foo Fighters performed a two hour and a half exclusive concert from their studio (Studio 606 in LA) on Livestream and Facebook. This is a really cool thing for the band to do for its fans and something I hope we will see more of in the future. As the Foo Fighters were playing, they were keeping an eye on the stream of Facebook status updates coming in, sometimes responding to comments and taking song requests.

This is first time ever that a live concert was produced just for their fans online – it was not just a broadcast of an existing concert/event. The concert attracted more than 150,000 viewers and trended on Twitter (#2, #1 was Halloween), was #1 on Digg and was featured on Facebook Celebs.

The event generated a lot of buzz in the music and social media industry. Here’s what Randi Zuckerberg who manages marketing at Facebook said about the event on Twitter :

Livestream was not only powering, distributing and promoting the concert (on IPhone, Facebook & Livestream) but also producing onsite. Livestream Production Services division provided the cameras and operators, live mixer and fully backed up encoder/internet connection setup. We hope to provide such turnkey service to many more bands and events in the future.

We would like to thank the Foo Fighters for choosing Livestream, Facebook for the incredible promotion and support and our backup CDN provider Highwinds which handled a good amount of the traffic.

    Simply Great!

I Hope You Continue doing new and fantastic things like this one, next time (soon I hope), why not Linkin Park or Offspring? They are the best options to play a great and really fun concert.

    Tank You LiveStream!!!
