Only in the Alley 2012 Calendar

Written by Jae at 11:58 am under Livestream General. No Comments

12 New York City-based startups are featured in the “Only in the Alley” 2012 calendar, and our founders Mark, Phil, and Max are gracing the page for the month of April.

Livestream

We started Livestream because when we founded it in 2007, there weren’t any sites that enabled the average consumer to broadcast their own live videos. Even YouTube, though incredibly popular, had only on-demand, short form content. We filled the void, and now, almost five years later, we’ve got 120 employees and five offices around the world, and we’re the market leader for real-time event coverage online. Using Livestream, anyone anywhere in the world can broadcast events as they happen, plus add photos, text, and video using web browsers and mobile devices. We came to New York not out of spite for Silicon Valley, but because it’s simply where we wanted to live. Where else do world-class art, music, tech, finance, and media scenes overlap? Only In The Alley!

You don’t have to be in NYC to take part in the Times Square New Year’s Eve festivities. You can download the 2012 Times Square Ball App for iPhone and Android! Watch and participate in the 2012 LIVE global celebration and upload photos to see your face on the Toshiba Vision Sign directly beneath the Times Square Ball, from your mobile device.

“New Year’s Eve 2012 marks the third year Livestream brings the celebration in Times Square to revelers around the world in real-time,” said Max Haot, co-founder and CEO of Livestream. “Our partnership with Toshiba and Times Square New Year’s Eve enables us to deliver high-quality video streams of this one-of-a-kind moment through the Times Square Ball App to everyone with a mobile device.”

Here are some of the 2012 app features:

  • Tweet @TimesSquareBall for the chance to see a reply to or a retweet of your greetings for the New Year scroll on the home screen of the 2012 official Times Square Ball App.
  • Send New Year’s Eve cards with personalized greetings with photos from the app to friends, family and followers on Facebook, Twitter and via email.
  • Submit your New Year’s photos for friends, family and other revelers to vote on via the app, on Facebook and Twitter. The photos with the most votes will be showcased on the Toshiba Vision sign atop One Times Square directly beneath the Waterford Crystal New Year’s Eve Ball on December 31. Photos with the most votes will be posted at the top of each hour from 7 p.m. through 11 p.m., and displayed for the world to view during the live show.
  • Watch live streaming of the Times Square Ball and Toshiba Vision screen atop One Times Square throughout the year as well as the highlight promo and other exclusive video content.
  • Customize your Toshiba Countdown Clock on your app’s home screen with your personal photo and time zone.
  • Check-in via Foursquare, Facebook and Twitter to find out how far away you are from Times Square

This Week in Livestream Music

Written by Cyrus at 7:55 pm under Livestream General. No Comments

This week we’re pulling out all the stops! We’re streaming so many great concerts that limiting our recommendations in the weekly music blog is simply out of the question.  So get ready, we’ve got some real heavy hitters this week

Tonight we’re bringing you live Soul and R+B from the Knitting Factory Brooklyn courtesy of Dwele. The Detroit based crooner just released his 3rd record and has collaborated with rappers Kanye West, Common and many more. Don’t miss his set starting live tonight at 10:30pm ET

Thursday at 4pm ET we have Good Old War playing a live acoustic session from our very own studio on The New Livestream. We’ve been having a blast with these sessions on the Beta platform, it seems like every week there’s a new feature for us to use.  Good Old War is currently on a month long US tour so you can expect fun tour stories and the band to be well rehearsed. Remember to FOLLOW the channel page and bring your questions for the band.

Immediately following the studio session is the Mix 96.1 Not So Silent Night concert featuring performances by Gym Class Heroes, Cobra Starship, TaioCruz & more. The show is presented by radio host Kidd Kraddick and is jam packed with great music. Make sure you RSVP to see all the bands live

We are beyond excited for the Power 106 Cali Christmas concert this Friday in LA. This year they’ve booked an unbelievable line up featuring Drake, J. Cole and Big Sean and more. RSVP now to see the biggest names in rap performing live Friday at 10:30pm ET!

Then late Friday night at 12:30am ET tune in to see T. Mills live from the Roxy in LA. T. Mills just released his new “Leaving Home” EP Home and we’re so stoked to be streaming his release party live. RSVP to the party HERE

Today, the NY Times’ business section features the Occupy Wall St movement and it’s use of Livestream. The movement started in September and the first channel to stream live on the topic is Global Revolution. Since then, GlobalRevolution.TV has become the main hub of Occupy communications. Many channels continue to follow, including OccupyNYC, Occupy Wall Street Los Angeles, Occupy Oakland, OccupyLSX (London), and Occupy Boston. You can find channels from most cities and countries on Livestream.

Livestream is proud to announce an exclusive Live performance by Chairlift on the New Livestream Monday December 12th at 8:30 PM ET. For many it will be the first time see Chairlift perform songs from their new album Something set to be released on January 24th on Columbia Records worldwide, and January 23rd on Young Turks in the  UK. (You might remember their song Bruises from the ipod nano commercial – if you liked that – you’ll love what they have coming)

Follow the channel to be notified when we’re live!

We have gathered a few Thanksgiving inspired videos full of great tips and recipes to rouse your appetite. First up will take you right to new.livestream.com/foodnetworkthanksgiving where you can scroll through all the photos, text updates, and videos.

For those of you who enjoy a vegan or gluten free diet, take a peak at the Forks Over Knives Plant-Based Thanksgiving special. Learn how to cook yummy Thanksgiving inspired recipes free of animal and wheat products.
