The Mozilla Revolution
Our friends over at Mozilla have been very busy the past few months. On September 7, Mozilla Firefox surpassed its 400 millionth download, illustrating the unstoppable community growth for this browser since it was first launched in November, 2004. Then on September 15, there was Mozilla 24, a one-day event held across the globe featuring industry leaders exploring the Web trends and technologies helping to shape the future of the Web.
Meanwhile, Mozilla is broadcasting Air Mozilla, a live Internet TV channel powered by Mogulus. The channel features interviews, news snippets, tutorial videos, and live “call-in” shows with influential Mozilla contributors from all over the world. Air Mozilla programming is always broadcasting at air.mozilla.com, and is also available as podcast, videocast, downloadable video, and on YouTube.
Mogulus is proud to be a part of the Mozilla community that is changing the face of the Web.
NewTeeVee Live is a one-day event that will explore some of the online video industry’s hottest topics. The event will bring together some of the industry’s most talented video producers, leading innovators and top funding executives — from hot startups such as Joost and Jaman, to well-established players such as Google and AOL. Over 300 guest speakers will show you how they are driving the adoption of products, technologies and brands in this rapidly expanding market.

The NewTeeVee Live web site (http://live.newteevee.com/home) promises some provocative questions will be explored:
- What happens when Web video meets TV?
- How can advertising wrap its mind around web video?
- What do VC firms have to say about Web video?
- What can content startups offer independent creators?
NewTeeVee Live will be held on November 14, 2007 in San Francisco. Mogulus is a key partner, and will be broadcasting the event live. We are packing our cameras and fine-tuning our graphics to bring you a state-of-the-art production, complete with live hosts and interviews with special guests. Stay tuned to this blog in the next few weeks to find out more.
Last blog, we told you about video effects PC software Webcam Max. We’d now like to give a plug to our friend Steve Green, who wrote CamTwist. This is very useful Mac freeware that’s already used by many of our Mogulus users for amazing video effects.
- Add real-time effects to your live video broadcasts, including RSS tickers, spotlights, halos, zooms, or countdowns.
- Stream still images or animated gifs.
- Stage an effect chain and preview it before pushing it live.
- Move objects around using fine-grained controls.
- Inset separate video streams for a picture-in-picture (PIP) display.
- Use multiple video chat programs or multiple video screens at the same time, with easy camera selection. (Note that CamTwist does not work with iChat.)

CamTwist runs on Mac OS X 10.4 (Intel or PPC). It can be quite resource intensive, so the more CPU processing power the better. The more interesting effects also require Quartz Extreme support. (To find out if your Mac supports Quartz Extreme, go to this article: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301347.)
You can download CamTwist at http://allocinit.com/index.php?title=CamTwist. Although it is freeware, we do encourage you to give Steve a donation for the privilege of using such great software.

- Substitute videos, movies, flash, desktop screen, pictures, and floating text to create “virtual” webcam feeds.
- Record webcam videos or snapshots.
- Inset separate video streams for a picture-in-picture (PIP) display.
- Access more than 1800 free effects online.
Webcam Max is compatible with Windows 2000, XP and Vista 32-bit OS. It runs with all instant messenger programs, no matter if you have a real webcam or if you want to use the virtual webcam feature. (There’s a fast switch between virtual and real webcam.)

We need your feedback!
As we’re getting ready for the next versions of Mogulus, and working towards a compelling PRO version, we’d like to reach out to all our users and producers to tell us what they really think and need from us.
Please take a few minutes to complete a short survey that outlines the most frequent feature requests we’ve received so far, and a few we’ve been thinking about too.
The support and great feedback from our beta producers is vital to helping us become the most exciting video broadcast solution on the web. We would like to thank you all for your feedback so far, and for answering our survey.
The Mogulus team is glad to announce that we have just released a new version of our video transcoding servers, which now supports a wider range video formats including MPEG-4/Quicktime with AAC audio.
This upgrade allows you to upload a larger variety of video types into your storyboards, by logging in to the Studio and accessing the “Get Videos” – “From My Computer” tab.
Our goal is to support as many video formats and codecs as possible, so if your favorite video format is not yet supported with this latest upgrade, let us know by sending us a feedback with a sample video attached.
Update 10 Oct – Through user feedback, we realized that the new transcoding server had some issues with Windows Media files and other formats. We have completed a second update, which now fixes the issue and brings even more codec support including DivX. Thank you for your patience.

The Mogulus team has just released beta version 1.2. If you access the Mogulus Studio, you will be able to immediately use the new features. Here’s an overview of the key new features :
Recording

One of the most awaited feature by the Mogulus producer community, you can now record your live shows and replay them in the auto-pilot. To use it, simply press the record button in the Broadcast Live tab and follow the on-screen instructions.
Better Graphics Controls

Prepare and save multiple “over the shoulder” graphics and “lower third” (strap) graphics – put any of them on the air with a single click. This feature removes the need to cut and paste or overwrite the text every time you want to change them. Graphics text (ticker, lower third, etc…) are now saved and shared across all logged in channel producers.
Channel Members Management

Camera Only mode – Allow contributors to login to your studio without giving them the ability to control your channel – all they can do is send a camera feed for you to mix in your show.
Lock a channel Member – you can easily lock a production member of your channel without having to remove them from the members list. This makes it easy to let contributors login only at certain times.
Deleting Storyboards

To avoid accidental deletion of storyboards, we have now implemented a confirmation dialog box.
We look forward to have you using the new features.
