His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, addressed students and guests at Hunter College as part of The Bridge Conference, a Tibetan and Chinese Youth Dialogue Project on May 23. Scolding the Chinese government for its censorship and propaganda, he also discussed the lack of progress and need for a better Tibetan-Chinese dialogue. His Holiness said the Chinese refuse to acknowledge the Tibetan problem and simply wanted to restrict it to the issue of the Dalai Lama and what he has done wrong.
“Some Chinese officials, they describe me as a demon – with horns,” he said during the conference, holding two fingers up to his shaven head to illustrate. “Their thinking is almost like children’s.”
The world-renowned monk, has lived in exile in India since 1959, after a failed uprising of Tibetans against Chinese rule. The Bridge Conference was created to foster understanding between Chinese and Tibetan students in the United States.

Leaders from more than 42 countries, representing business, government, academia, civil society and media are in Cartegna, Colombia, for the World Economic Forum on Latin America 2010. This is not including the millions able to watch from around the world as the entire forum unfolds exclusively on Livestream at http://livestream.com/worldeconomicforumbeginning Tuesday April 6 and lasting until Thursday April 8.
President Alvaro Uribe Velez of Colombia will open the meeting, under the theme “New Partnerships for a Sustainable Recovery”. Participants will discuss investment opportunities, governance and international cooperation for the enhancement of regional trade, security and environmental performance.
For almost a decade, Latin America has enjoyed more stable and on average more positive economic growth than in past decades. However, one-fourth of the population still lives on two dollars a day with limited access to basic services and infrastructure.
Latin American countries also face the global challenges of building a solid financial architecture, providing quality education for all, developing clean and diversified sources of energy and sustainably using natural resources. While consensus is emerging in the region on the need to preserve and strengthen democracies, there is no consensus on how to reduce poverty and inequality. To shape the fundamentals of a new development cycle, a redesign in regional cooperation is needed which is based on enlightened values and mutual trust.
