NEW YORK (Nov. 4, 2009) – On Nov. 6, TEDxEast is coming to New York. The inaugural TEDxEast event will feature a half-day of speakers, TEDTalks, music and dance.

The “Developing World Ideas” theme explores the people and processes that drive “world ideas” through stories that resonate on a global stage. Guest speakers will include web entrepreneur Rachel Sterne, best-selling author Suzy Welch and Kickstarter CEO Perry Chen among others.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has established TEDx, a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. TED Conferences invite the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com.

TEDxEast has chosen to broadcast the entirety of their first event via Livestream, the leading broadcast platform and community for streaming media. Livestream allows the webcast to be embedded anywhere, including integration with Facebook and Twitter to allow users of the social media tools to engage in the ongoing conversation of TEDxEast.

The conference is subsequently provided with immediate interaction with those viewers via the social stream, adding a new dimension to their live broadcast while further helping their message reach many thousands of viewers online. TEDxEast will be viewed live by TEDx groups in Argentina, Canada, Chile, Holland, Mexico, Portugal as well as in U.S. cities such as Boston, Kansas City and San Francisco.

“TEDxEast is an opportunity to inspire and educate with a roster of today’s thought leaders and tomorrow’s innovators. Livestream’s robust platform acts as a multiplier, bringing together a global audience to share our local TEDx experience,” says Edward Rashba, TEDxEast co-organizer.

Last night the Foo Fighters performed a two hour and a half exclusive concert from their studio (Studio 606 in LA) on Livestream and Facebook. This is a really cool thing for the band to do for its fans and something I hope we will see more of in the future. As the Foo Fighters were playing, they were keeping an eye on the stream of Facebook status updates coming in, sometimes responding to comments and taking song requests.

This is first time ever that a live concert was produced just for their fans online – it was not just a broadcast of an existing concert/event. The concert attracted more than 150,000 viewers and trended on Twitter (#2, #1 was Halloween), was #1 on Digg and was featured on Facebook Celebs.

The event generated a lot of buzz in the music and social media industry. Here’s what Randi Zuckerberg who manages marketing at Facebook said about the event on Twitter :

Livestream was not only powering, distributing and promoting the concert (on IPhone, Facebook & Livestream) but also producing onsite. Livestream Production Services division provided the cameras and operators, live mixer and fully backed up encoder/internet connection setup. We hope to provide such turnkey service to many more bands and events in the future.

We would like to thank the Foo Fighters for choosing Livestream, Facebook for the incredible promotion and support and our backup CDN provider Highwinds which handled a good amount of the traffic.

Livestream Releases Beta version of Procaster for Mac

Written by Alex Schuster at 10:59 am under Release. No Comments

Picture 12After many months of development, we are proud to release the beta version of Procaster Mac!

Overall its functionally is similar to the PC version, allowing users to broadcast their digital life with one press of the GO LIVE button. We’re still working on some sought after features like local recording, broadcasting speaker audio and better CPU/quality balance, all expected within the next few weeks as the beta version gets augmented. Meanwhile, users should feel free to help us test the beta and provide feedback. We do suggest that users not use this version in the production environment yet; they should wait for the beta version to mature a little bit more.

While on the outside Procaster Mac looks very similar to Procaster PC, we’ve actually re-done the behind the scenes architecture of the product. From now on we’ll have a shared code base for both Mac and PC versions, and every new feature we add will be created for both platforms at once. It also means a more stable release cycle and a broader base for future expansions. Doing this allowed us to add an H.264 encoding, a new graphic auto updater and other features (all expected in the next PC version, too). Check out the new Procaster Mac wiki page here, which will be updated with more information as new versions are released.

As for the future, we’re working both on closing the small gap that exists with the PC version as well on some cool expansions that are expected in the next few months, which we believe will rock the broadcasting world and open huge new possibilities for producers to enrich their broadcasts. Stay tuned.

Foo Fighters Livestream | Facebook

Techcrunch editor Jason Kincaid announced the upcoming Foo Fighters broadcast on Livestream and Facebook in a post last night:

“The Foo Fighters will be streaming a concert live tomorrow night on Facebook, direct from the band’s Studio 606 headquarters in Los Angeles. You can RSVP to the event here, and stream it live here beginning at 7 PM PST tomorrow. As with Facebook’s other recent video streaming events, users will be invited to update their status messages with their thoughts about the concert, which will draw in even more fans as they see the updates in their news feeds. The live video will be powered by Livestream.

Live concert streams seem to be a growing trend for the web’s most popular content and social sites. Last week MySpace streamed their Secret Show Weezer concert in San Francisco. And earlier this week YouTube streamed a U2 concert from the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. The event was a huge success, drawing a reported 10 million streams. YouTube also streamed San Francisco’s Outside Lands music festival in August. Hulu has also gotten in on the action, with a Dave Matthews Band stream in May.”
